Ständchen
Serenade

Kugler

There’s a moon above the mountain
That would please any loving pair,
A fountain plays in the garden,
There’s silence everywhere.

By the wall in the shadow
Three young students stand.
With fiddle, flute and zither
They sing, a charming band.

Their music steals so softly
Into the lady’s dream,
She looks at her fair-haired lover:
‘Oh stay just as you seem!’
